#1 Go Cape Town
Just after Time Out named Cape Town as Best City in the World for 2025, there is another first for the Mother City: The first Canopy by Hilton hotel opens! Located in Park Road, close to all the restaurants, bars and boutiques in Kloof Street (which in 2022 was named one of the coolest streets in the world), the hotel has a fitting name: Longkloof.
#2 Snake plant
It's perhaps better known as mother-in-law's tongue, but the Dracaena trifasciata has always been your best friend, even in your bedroom. The plant acts as an air purifier and absorbs dangerous toxins such as benzene, formaldehyde and xylene. It releases oxygen at night through photosynthesis, which contributes to a good night's rest.
#3 I’ve looked at clouds ...
See what's in the air. The avant-garde Japanese brand Comme des Garçons' new range has been launched. Clouds are popping up everywhere right now. Check out clothing lines. We also see them in videos and even in films.
#4 Style boffin
Another great new trend entrepreneur to follow on Instagram is Denise Boomkens @and.bloom. She wears what we want to wear. See how she gives new life to an old coat and scarf with some smart, original combos.
#5 Kentridge honoured
The South African artist William Kentridge was honoured and sworn in as a new foreign associate member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Kentridge has been praised for the impact and reach of his work.
#6 Pret has arrived in Jozi
More good news. The famous international fast food restaurant group Pret A Manger, known as Pret, opened a restaurant in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, on Valentine's Day and a second one is on the way for The Zone in Rosebank.
#7 The Snow Girl
We really enjoyed this series on Netflix. Málaga, 2010: The Three Wise Men march takes place in this Spanish city. But the most magical moment of the year turns into a nightmare for the Martín family when their daughter Amaya disappears into the crowd. Miren, a trainee journalist, begins a parallel investigation with that of inspector Millán that will reveal aspects of her past that she wanted to forget. With the help of her journalist colleague Eduardo, Miren will not rest until she finds the girl. Where is Amaya Martín?
#8 Water gel
Erborian CC Water is a new product in this amazing Korean skincare line that we're big fans of. It has a light, water-like texture that is easily absorbed by the skin and gives a subtle colour correcting effect (“CC" stands for “colour correcting"). An absolute winner if you don't like makeup, but are still looking for something that can just give your skin an even look.
#9 Crispy Onion Sprinkle
Woolworths has a new Indian range. The dhal and tikka spice mixes are great, but the Crispy Onion Sprinkle (R39,99) is something really special. We sprinkled it over a bowl of simply cooked lentils for a quick lunch this week.
#10 Chilli Pickle
And if you like chillies, we can also recommend Woolies' delicious Chilli Pickle, from the same range. But it's hót!
