The DA-led coalition that has been governing Tshwane for 17 months is likely to be toppled in the coming weeks by Herman Mashaba's ActionSA and the ANC. ALI VAN WYK speaks to Cilliers Brink, the mayor, who by all accounts had begun to get a handle on the city's problems.

WHAT is currently happening to Cilliers Brink and his mayoral committee in Tshwane is the kind of setback that can derail, even destroy, a politician's career.

Just a few weeks ago, Brink and his coalition partners in the City of Tshwane were in a good place for the first time in years. No, not Loftus, but if it were, the Bulls had just gotten a scrum, 15 m from the opposite touchline on the Railway Stand side of the field, on the try line. Joost is feeding the scrum.

A score is imminent. Gone were the days when the DA in Tshwane, as part of a minority coalition, had to negotiate every crossing of a ‘t' and dot of an ‘i' with the ANC and EFF in the council. The DA was the largest partner in a majority coalition that did not include the self-righteous ANC and the corrupt and unstable EFF...
