If it had only been about the Revenue Service, PIET CROUCAMP could have declared Pravin Gordhan a saint, but unfortunately, the facts about the rest of his career tell a different story.

LET me make the point I want to make and then seek justification for it. Pravin Gordhan did everything he could to distinguish himself from Jacob Zuma and his garrisons of plundering state capturers in the so-called “nine wasted years".

This is true, yes. But he was also an enabler and, as minister of finance, provided the capital through rescue packages that funded the plunderers' participation in the value and supply chains of South Africa's 700-plus state enterprises.

On the back of (enabling) empowerment legislation, state enterprises were the space and playground of the Guptas, partners with excessive profit margins, Luthuli House's Progressive Business Forum (PBF), deployed cadres, tenderpreneurs, protection racketeers, and criminals. He knew that the management of state enterprises was riddled with corruption and poor management but continued to fund ANC policy...
