Ramaphosa, the promising president

The annual declaration of priorities, policy directions and focus areas of the damaged ANC on Saturday is not making PIET CROUCAMP hold his breath.

SATURDAY is another one of those days on the political calendar that all South Africans look forward to. The so-called 8 January declaration in celebration of the founding of the ANC will be delivered this year on Saturday, January 11. The statement provides a platform for the ANC leadership, especially the president of the party, to announce the priorities, policy directions and focus areas for the coming year.

I really wanted to be at the event in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, but it coincides with the day I normally sharpen my pencils, so I can't be there, even though I'm in the Mother City. For the same reason, I missed the event at Mbombela Stadium in 2024.

However, you don't have to read the last 30 years of January 8 statements with particular attention to realise that they almost all sound the same. The only difference is your personal expectations. And since 2017, Ramaphosa has been enjoying my and millions of people's positive expectations even though he had issued an almost identical statement without significant successes to show the previous year...
