South Africa’s first dog museum
South Africa’s first Museum of Dogs, founded by Karel van der Vyver, showcases heartwarming stories of dogs' profound impact on their owners’ lives. The museum is in a historic building in Cape Town and is dedicated to celebrating dogs and their roles in our society as companions, comforters and friends.
Brilliant book
Status and Culture: How Our Desire for Social Rank Creates Taste, Identity, Art, Fashion, and Constant Change by William David Marx examines human society and behaviour and suggests that most of what we do is in pursuit of social status and social preferences. This is a must-read if you are interested in how the world is changing our values and perceptions.
Trend
We hope you kept your clogs. Birkenstocks are finally taking the back seat to clogs this summer. And in our opinion, you can wear them with anything and everything.
Finds
#1 Laureen Rossouw knows stuff we don't know. She says plain wooden picture frames are more stylish than black or white. We don't argue with Laureen on matters of style. We just do as she says, and found these simple “Gallery Midtone" 10 X 15 cm frames for R69.99 at Mr Price Home.
#2 We love the magnetic all-purpose clips from OXO. They're great for clipping shopping lists to your fridge and closing bags in your freezer. A set of four is on sale for R159 at Yuppiechef.
#3 We also spotted a funky little vegetable brush in the Yuppiechef birthday sale for R109. We love cleaning carrots and potatoes with a brush rather than peeling the goodness away.

What is anxiety?
Generally, people think anxiety is worrying and feeling nervous.
The manifestation of anxiety can be far more specific behaviour:
- Endlessly scrolling to avoid being in your head.
- Overthinking every conversation.
- Ignoring texts, calls and emails.
- Not being able to date without drinking.
- Fixing worst-case scenarios in your head that haven’t happened yet.
- Avoiding tasks that come out imperfectly.
- Not being able to eat, sleep or get out of bed.
- Not feeling like yourself.
Useful tip
To remove a water mark on wood, apply Vaseline and leave it on for 24 hours. Then wipe off and scrub the surface with white vinegar.
