The news that lands via email from Temu

Usually around the first or second week of December, an invisible hand flicks off the news switch in the world and then absolutely nothing more happens. People working at newspapers have to do clever tricks to fill the pages with stories, so that it's not just advertisements. This is when the news becomes a little bit silly, as it is here with us.

We don't know how this could have happened. We suspect it has something to do with artificial intelligence and a Gen-Z person behind a computer who had to track down a photo of a famous poet around 80 years old with a beard in another country. However it may be, it makes South Africans a bit fidgety ...

The Moot, in Pretoria (for those who don't know), is a lovely place to live. Gritty, soulful, subtropical, and so on. However, if you live there, just make sure you're not sitting early in December in your front yard on your annual plasticity, mental-health, doctor-prescribed shrooms trip when the small business community's Christmas parade passes by. You might not survive it.

Ooooh yes, that family ...

The holiday is upon us. The teenagers are home. And they're smarter than ever!

And the family from the deep binneland is on the way ...

The best plan is to take them to the mall!

And if that doesn't scare them off, you can always haul your sister to the doctor ...

And if they don't eventually find their way home, you can play this music in the house:

A later adaptation of the classic David Kramer Volkswagen advertisements, when the Synchro 4x4 van was introduced.
