Laureen Rossouw:
I'm obsessed with World War 2. I have watched and read everything I can get hold of about the war for as long as I can remember. And it doesn't stop.
Filip was a first for me, especially because of the main character's non-victim-like attitude.
Filip is a Polish Jew who disguises his identity as a waiter at a posh Berlin hotel while twirling the Germans (and their women) around his little finger.
It's enthralling and Filip, who looks like a handsome Kafka, is arrogant, street smart, sexy and fearless, and defies fate. He embodies a hero. The film is based on a true story and I cannot recommend it enough.

I installed this string of solar power lights on my porch and they have worked perfectly for eight months (not something that can often be said about outdoor lights; I've tried a few).
When they switch on automatically at sunset, I know it's time for a glass of wine. They cost R999 at Takealot.
Janine Rauch:
I’ve road-tested dozens of silicon spatulas, my go-to kitchen tool for stirring hot pots, scraping bowls of cake mixture and digging the last peanut butter out of a jar.
I’m long past the ones with the plastic handles (which melt) or metal handles (which get hot). This one from Woolworths has outlasted the rest: it has a solid feel in the hand, it's strong enough to prise out a thick, sticky dough, and it has wide and narrow ends. And this year it comes in simple cheffy black for R169.
Ilse Bigalke:
This 4-port USB car charger is ideal for road trips with anxious passengers eager to access their social media and e-mails.
It has four ports and charges devices by using the cigarette lighter outlet. It is available for R101 at Takealot.

A friend put this lengthy hot water bottle in my bed when I overnighted there the other day. The worst of the cold is now gone, but this is a winner!
You don't have to look for that little spot of heat.
It costs R239 at Takealot.
