Some cooks are known for being short-tempered and easily agitated. A recent incident ending in murder reminds HERMAN LATEGAN of a few kitchen tyrants he knew.

I RECENTLY read about the handsome Spanish YouTube chef, Daniel Sancho Bronchalo (30), who killed his lover (https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/aug/29/youtube-chef-found-guilty-of-gruesome-on-thai-holiday-island), Colombian plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga (44), during a romantic vacation. Afterwards, he expertly dismembered Arteaga, as only a chef could.

I’m not making light of murder; this is literally what happened on August 3 2023, on Koh Pha Ngan, the Thai holiday island known for its late night beach parties.

Allegedly, they danced the metaphorical polka and “sakkie-sakkie” under the full moon with the sea crashing in the background. At any instant, a shirtless Leonardo DiCaprio from the movie The Beach could have emerged from the waves...
