The celebrated artist has a full programme before kicking off her stage shoes in December: Aardklop; the Woordfees; Paternoster; Leuven, Belgium; and The Hague, Netherlands. LAUREEN ROSSOUW asks the questions.


1. What do you listen to in your car?


2. Your favourite poem or poets?

Antjie Krog, Breyten Breytenbach. Surely no explanation is needed. 

3. What takes your breath away?

All these questions.

4. If you could choose again, what would you be?

Nothing different than what I'm doing now.

5. What do you dream about?

A country with a decent government, electricity and peace.

6. What do you never want to repeat?

Apartheid and psychiatric institutions. 

7. If you could invite four people to dinner, living or deceased, who would they be?

Robin Williams,  John Lennon, Johannes Kerkorrel and Édith Piaf.

8. What will you serve them?

Oxtail, wine, pavlova. Piaf will insist on more wine.

9. And what will you talk to them about?

I have many questions about the other side.

10. What do you fear?

Dementia. I packed laundry in the fridge the other day.

11 . Your favourite song to sing?

Non, je ne regrette rien.


12. What kind of music can you not listen to?


13. What can't you live without?

Water, I only have half a kidney.

14. Your superpower?

I can sing in tune.  

15. What are you looking forward to?

My performances in Europe in November/December. Can't wait to perform again in the Netherlands and Belgium. And then to come home to the sun, my husband and Christmas.
