Rejection and the need for control underlie ‘incomprehensible’ crimes that have claimed at least 42 lives in two decades. Educational psychologist Melanie Moen and criminologist Christiaan Bezuidenhout traced 20 South African cases of ‘revenge filicide' since 2003, and their new paper analyses killers who were determined to inflict suffering and misery on their partners by murdering their children.
