In July, our coldest month of winter, we may look back at stage 4 loadshedding as ‘the good old days', writes MAX DU PREEZ, with or without Sputla.

I WRITE this article in the light of a rechargeable lamp. My computer and Wi-Fi are connected to an inverter with batteries. I'm in the eighth hour of loadshedding since midnight – and I live in Cape Town, which is usually affected less severely than others regions. It's stage 6.

We must accept it as the new new normal, despite a new special minister of electricity and many promises.

Energy experts fear we can have stage 8 loadshedding within a month or two as the winter demand increases...
