MXOLISI KAUNDA, dubbed the first citizen of “Dirtbin” by some, seems damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t, but the big question is: can he redeem the reputation of a holiday city that many still deem delightful?
The eThekwini mayor has been challenged to don his baggies and dive into the sea, where E. coli are thriving thanks to a severely compromised sanitation system.
The stunt might prove sceptics wrong by showing it is safe to swim in the waters off a city nostalgically regarded by many as South Africa’s holiday playground...
